Wat Senasanaram Ratchaworawihan: Pay homage to the Reclining Buddha and seek blessings from Luang Pho Uppatham and Phra In Plang
Wat Senasanaram Ratchaworawihan is a first-class royal temple of the Ratchaworawihan type, located in Hua Ro Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.
It was built during the Ayutthaya period and renovated by King Rama IV.
Formerly known as Wat Suea, this ancient temple was built during the Ayutthaya period. It is located within the front wall behind Chandrakasem Palace. There is no clear evidence of its construction, but chronicles indicate that it was built at the same time as Chandrakasem Palace as the palace temple. It was built during the reign of King Naresuan the Great, who held the title of Maha Uparat, ruling Phitsanulok. He was granted royal permission to build it. Chandrakasem Palace was built as a royal residence during his return to Ayutthaya around 2120 CE. Later, King Prasat Thong, the father of King Narai the Great, renovated it. During the reign of King Narai the Great, who was the King of Ayutthaya, he moved to the Narai Ratchaniwet Throne Hall in Lopburi Province. His younger brother, Ekathotsarot, was appointed the Crown Prince and bestowed Chandrakasem Palace as his residence. This became the tradition that Chandrakasem Palace was the residence of the Crown Prince, with Wat Suea serving as the palace's official temple. It flourished until it became a deserted area after the fall of Ayutthaya in 2310 CE.
