Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan or "Wat Ratchanatda" is a temple located at the intersection of Ratchadamnoen Klang Road and Mahachai Road in Phra Nakhon District. It means "the temple of the granddaughter". This temple was built according to the royal command of King Nangklao to honor his granddaughter, Princess Somanas Watthanawadi, in 1846. Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan is a third-class temple of the Worawihan type. King Nangklao built it to honor his granddaughter, Princess Somanas Watthanawadi, so he named it Wat Ratchanatdaram in 1843.
The beauty of Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan was built during the reign of King Rama III by Chao Phraya Yommarat (Bunnak) who designed the temple's construction plan and supervised the construction of the ubosot, the viharn, and the sala kan parian. Chao Phraya Si Phiphat designed and supervised the construction of the metal castle. Phraya Mahayotha built the monks' quarters. Along with the walls and dams around the temple, the view of Bangkok at night is different from the busy and hot daytime. Changing the atmosphere to walk around with a cool breeze on the face made this walk less hurried while thoroughly exploring this place.
Before the renovation of Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan in 1996, Air Chief Marshal Awat Ngoenchuklin, a national artist in architecture, designed the roofing materials and roof decorations to be metal and blackened copper, giving it a mysteriously magical feeling for me. And in 2012, It is a third-class royal temple, Worawihan type, which was registered as an ancient monument in 1949. The beauty of the temple that catches the eyes of passersby was created by Chao Phraya Yommarat (Bunnak), an architect who designed the temple's construction plan, supervised the construction of the ordination hall, the temple, and the sala. Phraya Mahayot built the monks' quarters, walls, and dams around the temple. While Chao Phraya Sripipat was the designer and supervisor of the construction of the Loha Prasat, King Rama III ordered the construction of the Loha Prasat instead of the Chedi, but it was not completed until King Rama V ordered the construction to be completed. Later, Wat Ratchanatdaram was renovated again during the reign of Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat, while trying to preserve the original design of the Loha Prasat during the reign of King Rama III as much as possible. The Loha Prasat here is considered the first Loha Prasat in Thailand. It is a 7-storey building with 37 spires, which represent the 37 factors of enlightenment in Buddhism. The 7th spire enshrines the Buddha’s relics. In the middle of the castle is a hollow space with a 67-step spiral staircase to walk up to see the view from above. Most of the architecture in the temple is exquisite and intricate in the Thai art style, such as the ordination hall with a gable, raka leaves, and a pediment covered in gold lacquer and decorated with beautiful glass. Inside is the principal Buddha image named Phra Setthammuni, while in the viharn is the Buddha image in the attitude of subduing the ocean. Name: Phra Phutthachutithamnarasap Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Open daily 08.00 - 17.00 hrs. Entrance fee : 20 baht.
