Wat Parinayok Worawihan temple | Bangkok
Wat Parinayok Worawihan, Bangkok by Chaophraya Bodindecha
Wat Parinayok Worawihan is a third-class royal temple, Worawihan type, located at 1 Parinayok Road, Ban Phan Thom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok, under the Mahanikaya sect.
The original name of this temple was Wat Phrom Surin, built in 2353 (during the reign of King Phutthaloetla Naphalai) by Chaophraya Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni), who was then known as Phra Phrom Surin. Therefore, the temple was named after the royal title at that time. The temple was renovated by the temple builder during the reign of King Nangklao after he returned from the war with Vietnam in Cambodia. However, he passed away before it was completed. King Nangklao therefore graciously bestowed It was accepted as a royal temple and was further built until completion and given a new name, Wat Parinayok, to commemorate Chao Phraya Bodindecha, who was the Samuha Nayok at that time. The word Parinayok comes from the word Parinayok, which means "the great general who is the partner of the great emperor". The area of Wat Parinayok is located on the bank of Khlong Bang Lamphu, so the land is narrow and long, called "flag-shaped land". The flagpole is on the west side, next to Khlong Bang Lamphu, and the end of the flag is on the east side, next to the land of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The original area of the temple was very wide, from Lan Luang Road, opposite Mahakan Fort, at the base of Phan Fa Lilat Bridge, to the current location of the temple.
When Ratchadamnoen Road was cut in 1899 (during the reign of King Chulalongkorn), the road route cut into the area of Wat Parinayok, causing the temple to lose a lot of its area. King Chulalongkorn therefore ordered the construction of Wat Parinayok anew. By building a new chapel and bringing the serpent-shaped leaves from the old chapel to be installed around the new chapel.
