Wat Prayurawongsawas temple | Bangkok

Wat Prayurawongsawas, or Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan, or as Thonburi locals call it, Wat Prayoon, is a UNESCO-listed conservation temple located prominently at the foot of Phra Phutthayotfa Bridge. Its architecture combines the wisdom of craftsmanship in Ayutthaya, but also incorporates modern European colonial designs, along with artwork from the palace fences of the early Rattanakosin period. In addition, the area in front of Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan was once the residence of Dr. Bradley, a famous Western doctor of the era, who was also a character in Buppesannivas 2. For those who are still unsure whether visiting a temple is fun, we have 6 highlights of visiting Wat Prayurawongsawas.
Built by Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Prayurawong (Dis Bunnag) In 1828, it took 8 years to build. The locals in Thonburi originally called this temple Wat Rua Lek because Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Prayurawong ordered a red iron fence from England to present to King Rama III to use as a wall in the Grand Palace. The iron fence was about 3 cubits high and was made in the shape of ancient weapons: spears, swords, and axes. However, the fence had the pattern of weapons that His Majesty did not like. Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Prayurawong therefore requested to bring it back to use as a temple wall instead. It can still be seen today as a wall inside the temple near the large white Phra Borommathat Maha Chedi.
