Dam Type: Clay-core rockfill dam built across the Phrom River in the Khun Phai Mountains.
Height: 70 meters
Dam Crest Length: 700 meters
Elevation: Located at an average elevation of 800 meters above sea level, it is the highest dam in Thailand.
Hydroelectric Power Plant: With an installed capacity of 40,000 kilowatts, it can generate an average of approximately 57 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. Enhancing the stability of the electricity system in the Northeastern region.
History and Importance
The Nam Phrom Dam Project began construction to develop water sources for hydroelectric power generation. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great bestowed the name "Chulabhorn Dam" in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, Princess Srisavangavadhana Worakattiyaratna. Her Royal Highness presided over the dam's official opening ceremony.
