Ban Phluang Castle, Ban Phluang | Surin

Ban Phluang Castle, Ban Phluang | Surin
Ban Phluang Castle is a religious site or shrine used for sacred community ceremonies. Facing east, the main castle is constructed of white sandstone and sits on a laterite base, further enhancing the castle's striking appearance.
- Interestingly, the castle has only one entrance, the east. The other three sides are false door frames.
- A beautiful feature that Joongka page would like to invite you to observe is the relatively complete and beautiful "lintel." The lintel above the door frame is carved with the image of Indra riding the single-headed elephant Erawan.
- The face of Kala, or Kiatmukha [the face of a giant or demon in Hinduism, symbolizing "time," devouring all things, providing protection and protection from evil], with a triangular tongue. Two arms are holding garlands sprouting from either side of the mouth. The upper stripe depicts six hermits, alternating with a garland pattern.
- The pediment above the lintel This depicts Krishna lifting Mount Govardhana. The pediment's frame features a floral stem pattern, with a five-headed naga at the end of the frame. Outside the frame are carved small animal figures. Doorkeepers stand on either side of the door, holding clubs. Near the door, flowers are layered along the wall, creating a graceful and elegant display.
- The southern and northern walls of the castle are also beautifully carved. On the southern side, the lintel depicts Indra riding the three-headed elephant Erawan. On the northern side, the lintel depicts Krishna defeating the six-headed naga Kaliya. [The naga Kaliya, in Brahman-Hinduism, is a venomous naga.
- Prasat Ban Phluang is an ancient Khmer art form, coinciding with the Khlang period. Continuing into the Baphuon period [16th - early 17th Buddhist centuries]
