Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Woramahawihan (Wat Yai) | Phitsanulok
It was built before the Sukhothai period and has been a royal temple since the beginning because evidence from the Sukhothai stone inscription was found that King Sri Nawanatham built the Phra Tooth Relic Sukontha Chedi with a central prang and four chapels in each direction. Later, in 1915, King Rama VI graciously granted the promotion to the first-class royal temple of the Woramahawihan type in 1915. Currently, its full name is Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Woramahawihan. Inside the chapel is the Phra Buddha Chinnarat or "Luang Pho Yai", a Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture. The Buddha statue is made of bronze in the Mara-Vijaya posture. Sukhothai art in the late period, lap width 5 cubits 1 span 5 inches, height 7 cubits, casted in the reign of Phra Maha Thammaracha I (Phaya Lithai) who created Phra Buddha Chinnarat together with Phra Buddha Chinnasri and Phra Si Satsada. It is a lotus shape with the most beautiful Buddha characteristics in Thailand. The outer lines of the body are graceful. The face is rather round, the eyebrows are arched. The crown is in the shape of a flame. It has a special characteristic called "Tigongkuli" which means the tips of all four fingers are the same length. "Glass Pavilion" is made of carved wood. It was created in the Ayutthaya period. The body is carved to look like a dragon but has a trunk like an elephant at the end of the pavilion. There is a crocodile-like lizard in the middle of the pavilion. There are two Asura gods protecting him, "Thao Wessuwan" and "Yak Arawak". The legend of the creation of Phra Buddha Chinnarat states that Phra Buddha Chinnarat was created in the reign of Phra Sri Thammatraipitak (Phaya Lithai) and was created together with "Phra Buddha Chinnasri" and "Phra Si Satsada" using craftsmen from Si Satchanalai. and Hariphunchai City
During the casting process, only two statues were successfully cast. As for Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, the gold did not flow smoothly and had to be recast three times. The last time, "Phra In" transformed himself into "Chi Phakhao" to help cast the gold on Thursday, the second day of the waxing moon, the sixth month of the year of the Snake, 319 B.E., Chula Sakarat, so the casting was completed. At present, "Phra Phuttha Chinnasi" and "Phra Si Satsada" have been invited to be enshrined at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, Bangkok. The temple therefore casted a replica instead. As for the gold left over from casting Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, Phra Phuttha Chinnasi, and Phra Si Satsada, Phraya Lithai ordered the craftsmen to bring the remaining bronze scraps together to cast a small Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture, with a lap width of about 1 sok. This Buddha statue was called "Phra Lue", which was enshrined in front of the ordination hall. As for the main prang, it is where the sacred relics of the Lord Buddha were enshrined. It was built during the reign of King Sri Nawanathom. Which has a history of thousands of years until the present day
