An ancient temple of Lampang since the reign of Queen Chamadevi, with outstanding ancient architecture. The pagoda for the year of the Ox
is one of the most revered temples in northern Thailand and attracts many tourists, especially locals. People consider this temple to be one of the must-visit temples in northern Thailand. The temple is unique with its solid walls and is situated on an ancient man-made mound. The part of the temple inside the walls is hundreds of years old and has not changed much, giving Wat Phra That Lampang Luang a unique atmosphere.
Opposite the temple is a large parking lot with many food stalls to serve tourists. There are also several horse carriages parked along the main road, which you can walk around the temple.
This is a large fortified temple with many buildings and an interesting museum, so allow at least 45 minutes to visit.
Inside are enshrined the hair and ashes of the Buddha's right forehead, the hair on the front and back, and at the golden door there is a bullet hole left by Nanthip the elephant. Phra Kaew Don Tao or Phra Kaew Morakot is the Buddha image of Lampang.
