Phra That Kham Kaen is still in the provincial emblem and motto.
It was built around the beginning of the 25th Buddhist century. According to a brief history, Moriyakasat, the ruler of Mori, a city in the territory of Cambodia, wanted to bring the ashes of the Lord Buddha that he had kept during the passing of the Lord Buddha not long ago to enshrine in Phra That Phanom. Therefore, he ordered 9 Arahants and senior monks to lead the procession to invite the ashes on this occasion. When they passed by Don Makham, there was a large dead tamarind tree.
