According to the evidence of the Land Department, map 41, it is named "Wat Pak Ao", but the villagers call it "Mon Temple" because it is near the Mon Canal as shown in the map and there are many Mon villagers living in this area. However, from the stories passed down, some say it is called "Wat Atthawara Ram" because there are 8 huts, while others call it "Wat Atsawara Ram".
