Koh Mak emphasizes peace and tranquility. Small shops are scattered throughout, and there's no lively nightlife like on larger islands. It's ideal for couples, families, and those seeking relaxation.Seasons: High season is November–February – clear skies and clear water. March–May is very hot, but the water is still beautiful for snorkeling. June–October is the rainy season; some days are windy, and boat trips may be cancelled.
Cash & Banking Services: Banking services on the island are very limited (ATMs/currency exchange are unreliable and may be unavailable at certain times). Most large accommodations accept cards, but it's recommended to carry enough cash for the entire trip.
Main Beaches on Koh Mak (Beach-by-Beach)
1) Ao Suan Yai Beach – Sunset & Long, Open Beach
Beautiful sunsets. Romantic
Location: Northwest coast, long beach (~2 km), many beachfront resorts, perfect for leisurely strolls.
Atmosphere: Clear water, easy swimming, warm evening light, views of small and large islands in front (including the boat exit to Koh Kham).
Activities: Evening beach walks, sunset photography, beach dinners.
Insider Tips: Set up your camera 45-60 minutes before sunset for a beautiful, clear frame / Early mornings have clear water and clean light.
2) Ao Kao Beach – Relaxing atmosphere, simple shops, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
Easy to eat, friendly people. Location: Southwest coast, the area with the most accommodations/cafes/small bars on the island.
Atmosphere: Soft sand, relatively shallow water, perfect for long walks. Suitable for families, couples, and those who like to relax.
Activities: Sunbathing, SUP/kayak paddling, taking photos on the swing under the coconut trees / In the evening, there's a small bar with some music, but not too loud.
Insider Tips: During high tide in the late afternoon, the beach is flat and narrow. It's best to time your swimming between late morning and noon.
3) Ao Phra & Ao Phrao – Quiet and Private Zone
Private beachfront resorts
Location: North-west of the island, curved beach, clear water, few people.
Atmosphere: Beautiful resorts scattered around, some areas feel like private beaches, perfect for serious relaxation.
Activities: Reading, listening to the waves, kayaking to the nearby beach.
Insider Tips: If you prefer quiet... Choose accommodation without shops/bars nearby.
4) Ao Nid & East Coast – Pier/Community Lifestyle
Local, Boat Route Location: The island's main pier is located near Ao Nid on the east coast.
Atmosphere: Not a beach for swimming, but features homestays/small cafes offering a glimpse into island life.
Activities: Enjoy morning walks in the east sea breeze, visit local cafes.

Cococape Pier: A long wooden pier extending into the sea. It's one of the most beautiful spots to watch the sunset and you can swim and snorkel from the end of the pier.
Koh Kham: A small island near Koh Mak with fine white sand and black volcanic rock, contrasting with the clear blue sea (boat transfers are available from Ao Suan Yai).
Ao Khao and Ao Suan Yai: Main beaches with fine white sand and calm water, perfect for swimming and kayaking.
Koh Kradad: An island with a natural herd of deer and coconut trees leaning towards the sea (Unseen Thailand).

Getting to the island: Take a speedboat from... Krom Luang Chumphon Pier (Laem Ngob), Trat Province. Travel time is approximately 45-60 minutes.
Transportation on the Island:

Easiest way to get to Koh Mak (Boonsiri Ferry)Convenient travel with a Bangkok–Trat–Koh Mak bus service followed by a speedboat transfer to Koh Mak in one ticket. (Check flight schedules/seasons in advance)
From Bangkok: Bus/minibus to Trat → Short transfer to the pier (Laem Ngop or Laem Sok) → Speedboat to Koh Mak ~30–45 minutes
From Trat Airport (TDX): Taxi to the pier ~20–30 minutes, then take a speedboat
