Wat Phra Kaew, a beautiful temple with a U Thong-style chedi, approximately 700 years old, is considered by archaeologists to be the most beautiful in Thailand. It also houses the Luang Pho Chai statue, built around the 18th-19th Buddhist centuries. It is constructed from five pieces of sandstone. Behind the Buddha image is a sandstone lintel, in the style of ancient Khmer art, depicting Shiva riding the elephant Erawan in an upside-down glass pavilion. Wat Phra Kaew, Chainat, is an ancient temple in Sankhaburi District. It features a square chedi, the "Queen of the Chedi in Southeast Asia," and a Luang Pho Chai statue, with a lintel in ancient Khmer art. It was originally named "Wat Kaew" or "Wat Phob Kaew" after a beautifully colored crystal Buddha image was discovered inside the chedi. The temple was built in the early Ayutthaya period and renovated during the Rattanakosin period, around 1907.

Origin of the Name: Originally called "Wat Kaew" or "Wat Phob Kaew" after a multi-colored glass Buddha image was discovered inside the chedi.
Architecture and Highlights
Main Chedi: "The Queen of the Chedi in Southeast Asia," a tall chedi in the Lavo style, combining late Dvaravati art. It features a recessed wooden base in the Sukhothai and Srivijaya styles.
Luang Pho Chai: A red laterite Buddha image enshrined in the viharn in front of the chedi, approximately 800 years old.
Lintel: A Khmer artifact from the Bapuan period (approximately 1550-1650 CE) mounted upside down behind Luang Pho Chai. It is believed to have come from a nearby Khmer temple.
Luang Pho Ploy (Luang Pho Loi): A stucco Buddha image brought from an abandoned temple by villagers and enshrined here.
Luang Pho Khao: A white Buddha image enshrined in an open viharn behind the chedi.
Yak Wat Chaeng: a large, imposing sculpture.
Sala Phra Khanthararat: a building with beautiful architecture.
