1. Wat Phichai Songkhram, Samut Prakan History
Wat Phichai Songkhram was built around 2253 B.E., originally called Wat Pho or Wat Nok. It is estimated that it received the royal charter of the boundary around 2253 B.E.
It is a temple that has experienced a long history of 3 capitals: the late Ayutthaya period, Thonburi and Rattanakosin. At first, Phraya Phichai, who was a loyal warrior of King Taksin, intended to build this temple as a fortress to protect against enemies. However, during the reign of King Rama II, King Phutthaloetla Naphalai came to make merit at this temple and renovated it. He also changed the name from Wat Nok or Wat Pho to ‘Wat Phichai Songkhram’. The original chapel from the late Ayutthaya period has now been registered as a national historical site by the Fine Arts Department. The new Ubosot was built in the present era in a beautiful four-sided castle style, located in front of the old Ubosot. In front of the old Ubosot is an Ayutthaya-style pagoda decorated with beautiful decorations. Benjarong cups and bowls are decorated with stucco patterns like a necklace. There are lotus clusters of stucco decorations around the three-tiered pagoda.
2. Wat Phra Samut Chedi was built in 1819 and is known as the Chedi Klang Nam because in the past, the area where the pagoda was built was an island surrounded by water. The pagoda is 38 meters high. Inside are relics of the Lord Buddha, Phra Chaiwat, and Phra Pang Ham Samut. It is believed that these relics will protect against bad things from the sea. For tourists who love to make merit and take pictures, Wat Phra Samut Chedi is another place that should not be missed because it is beautiful on a day with both old European buildings and a beautiful white pagoda by the Chao Phraya River.
