Wat Den Sali Sri Muang Kaen (Wat Ban Den), Mae Taeng District | Chiang Mai

Wat Den Sari Sri Muang Kaen, Wat Phra Non, Chiang Mai Province, also known as Wat Ban Den, was built in 1894. It stands prominently on a hillside, beneath which lies a sacred cave revered by the villagers. Initially, it was a small village temple. Later, when Kruba Chao Thuang Nathasilo resided at Wat Ban Den, his virtuous conduct earned him the respect and faith of his numerous disciples, resulting in numerous donations. With his devotion to Buddhism, Kruba Chao Thuang did not wish to keep the donations, and his determination to create a tangible memorial of merit, the temple was renovated in 1991. Kruba Chao Thuang intended to transform the temple into a beautiful spiritual center, imbued with moral principles. This tactic aimed to attract visitors to the temple for spiritual refinement, a place of spiritual rest rather than religious ceremonies, where they could gradually absorb the Buddha's teachings while exploring the site.
The architecture of the temple is a modernized version of Lanna Thai architecture. This temple blends the philosophy of Kruba Chao Thuang, who believes that whatever he wears and whatever he does, he can do, but must be consistent. This temple blends the traditional Thai and forest temples, believing that religion is sustained through practice, so division is not a priority. He firmly adheres to the principle of building according to merit. This merit-based construction contributes to the temple's exquisite beauty and splendor.
