Wat Thepthidaram
Wat Thepthidaram Worawihan is located on Mahachai Road, Samran Rat Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. It is a third-class royal temple, Worawihan type, which King Nangklao, Rama III, ordered to be built as a gift to Krom Muen Apsara Sudathep in 1836 and completed in 1839. It is a temple that stands out for its architecture, which combines Thai and Chinese arts, especially the Ho Trai, which has been preserved so well that it has received an outstanding conservation award from UNESCO.
Wat Thepthidaram Worawihan is also called Wat Ban Phraya Krai Suan Luang. It is a temple that King Nangklao, Rama III, ordered to be built in 1836 to honor Princess Wila, the eldest daughter, or Krom Muen Apsara Sudathep. This temple took about 3 years to build before being completed in 1839 and given the name Wat Thepthidaram Since then
In addition, this temple is also the residence of Sunthorn Phu, the great poet of the Rattanakosin era, who was ordained here for about 2 years between 2383-2385. The temple has preserved Sunthorn Phu's kuti as the "Poet's House" or Sunthorn Phu Museum.
Since it is a temple with a mixture of Thai-Chinese architecture, the first thing we notice is that the temple roof does not have the gable, raka leaves, and hongs like the roofs of Thai temples in general.
Worship Phra Phuttha Thewawilas, or as the locals generally call him, Luang Pho Khao, the principal Buddha image in the ordination hall. It is a Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, carved from pure white stone. It enshrines the Vejyan Bupbok, which King Nangklao brought from the Grand Palace to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. It is a Buddha image with beautiful and graceful art.
