Chulamanee Temple ( Pay homage to Thao Wessuwan ) | Samut Songkhram
Wat Chulamani is an ancient temple located on the bank of Amphawa Canal, which is connected to Khlong Phi Lok. It was built in the late Ayutthaya period. Wat Chulamani was originally called Wat Mae Chao Thip and was built during the reign of King Prasat Thong. It is believed that it was built between 2172–2190. According to history, Thao Kaew Pluek (Noi), one of the daughters of Than Phlai, the headman of Bang Chang Market, was responsible for collecting taxes and duties from the market and the ancestor of the Bang Chang royal family.
Wat Chulamani was prosperous during the time when Phra Athikarn Niam was the second abbot. He established a school to teach Thai and Khmer scriptures in Wat Chulamani. When he passed away around 2459, the temple was almost deserted. There were only a few monks living there, so the temple deteriorated and became mostly ruined. The headman of Pak Ngam Subdistrict (Currently Bang Chang Subdistrict) I would like to invite Phra Ajarn Chaem Solos, a junior monk who resides at Bang Kaphom Temple, to govern the temple to make it prosperous.
There are 4 statues of Thao Wessuwan, each with different meanings and beliefs.
Phrama Suthi Thep, a golden figure, is believed to bestow blessings on luck, career, and money (the first statue of the temple).
Chatumharaj, a green-black figure, is believed to bestow blessings on protection and warding off evil from life.
Thepbut Suthi Thep, a golden figure, is believed to bestow blessings on people to have their wishes fulfilled, their lives, and their partners.
Human, a human figure, is believed to bestow blessings on people to be successful in life and to make everything they do go smoothly.
Wat Chulamani is located at Khlong Wat Chulamani, Village No. 7, Bang Chang Subdistrict, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province.
