Wat Nok Pak Thale, Phetchaburi: A Ship-Shaped Vihara and a 100-Year-Old Teakwood Church | Phetchaburi
Let's take a look at the ancient teakwood church. It's three rooms long, with walls made of interlocking wooden planks, and raised above the waterline. Wooden churches are very popular in coastal temples because the material is readily available and more durable than cement buildings, which are susceptible to erosion from sea winds.
There's also an old sermon hall with beautifully alternating white and red tile roofing. The red tiles are arranged to spell out the year of construction: R.S. 117 (1900 AD). However, the bell tower and the monks' quarters were in a state of disrepair for a while, but the temple has since been renovated and is in good condition.
