Places to visit Wat Mahathat in Sukhothai | Sukhothai
The first tourist attraction in Sukhothai Province is to pay homage to the city's sacred objects, Wat Mahathat, one of the ancient temples designed in the shape of a pagoda in the shape of a lotus bud. The area around the temple is surrounded by more than 200 pagodas lined up for tourists to come and visit.
Wat Mahathat has as many as 200 chedis of various styles, 10 wihans, 8 pavilions, 1 ordination hall, and 4 ponds. On the east side of the main chedi is a large wihan made of laterite. There is a pedestal which used to house the largest bronze Buddha image in Thailand, "Phra Sri Sakyamuni". It is currently enshrined at Wat Suthat Thepwararam Ratchaworamahawihan in Bangkok. On the north and south sides of the Mahathat chedi are standing Buddha images approximately 9 meters high inside an arch, namely Phra Attharot.
