Surat Thani City Pillar Shrine | Surat Thani
The Surat Thani City Pillar Shrine is a revered landmark of the city, constructed in the Srivijaya architectural style—a civilization that flourished in ancient times. Inside, the City Pillar stands 108 inches tall; its top is carved from a large *Ratchaphruek* (Golden Shower tree) log. The pinnacle features the four-faced visage of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, facing all four cardinal directions, while the topknot of the hair is carved into the image of a Buddha in the meditation posture, all beautifully finished with lacquer and gold leaf.
