Wat Phutthathiwat is a beautiful temple in Betong that houses the Phra Mahathat Chedi Phra Phuttha Thammaprakat, a stupa designed in an adapted Srivijaya style. It enshrines the Buddha's relics, serving as a site of worship and reverence for the public. The temple also features a statue of Luang Pu Thuat (famous for the legend of turning seawater into fresh water), a revered monk highly respected by Thai people.
The Phra Mahathat Chedi Phra Phuttha Thammaprakat stands 39.90 meters tall—equivalent to a 13-story building. The main stupa sits at the center, surrounded by smaller satellite stupas, all gleaming in a magnificent golden hue. It enshrines the Buddha's relics and was constructed to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit (Queen Consort of King Rama IX) on the auspicious occasion of her 60th birthday anniversary.
