General Tuan's Mausoleum on Doi Mae Salong | Chiang Rai
General Tuan's Mausoleum serves as the final resting place of the first community leader of Doi Mae Salong, General Tuan Shi-wen. He was the commander of the 5th Battalion of the 93rd Division—a displaced military force that was granted the opportunity to settle on Doi Mae Salong as their final home. He transformed this displaced military group into a thriving highland community, establishing an agricultural lifestyle centered on tea cultivation. The tea produced here became renowned for its exceptional taste and quality, earning recognition at both national and international levels.
Constructed in 1980, the mausoleum features a marble pedestal housing General Tuan Shi-wen's remains, situated within a large, white Chinese-style pavilion with marble flooring. Behind the pedestal, vintage photographs recount his history and achievements. On the slope in front, the Chinese character "Tuan" is displayed in gold against a blue background. Perched at an elevation of approximately 1,300 meters above sea level, the mausoleum offers a view of the Santikhiri village nestled in the valley below, making it a notable viewpoint on Doi Mae Salong. A shop selling high-quality tea to tourists is located at the front.
