Phaya Taungoi, Taungoi District | Sakon Nakhon
Many people have heard the song "Taungoi" by Jintara Poonlarp, but may not know the story and sacredness of Phaya Taungoi. The word "Taungoi" means a turtle that lives on a high place, on the riverbank, or on a rock.
The story dates back about 400 years. Thailand was at war with Laos, and the Laotians were defeated and forced to settle in Thailand.
Upon reaching the Phung River, a large river with many turtles, the people of that time believed the area had abundant vegetation and was suitable for settlement.
