Ob Luang National Park, Hod District, Chiang Mai
"Ob Luang," with its unique beauty of rock cliffs and the flowing Mae Chaem River, is another tourist attraction I highly recommend visiting in Ob Luang National Park, Hod District, Chiang Mai Province.
Ob Luang is located in Hang Dong Subdistrict, Hod District, Chiang Mai Province, in the area bordering Hod and Chom Thong Districts. It is a protected area of Ob Luang National Park, Department of Forestry. Access to the area is via Highway 108 from Chiang Mai to Mae Sariang District, which passes through Hang Dong District,
San Pa Tong District, Chom Thong District, and Hod District in that order. After passing Hod District for about 16 kilometers, or at kilometer marker 16, on the right-hand side is Ob Luang. However, the entrance to Ob Luang National Park is about 1 kilometer past Ob Luang itself, or 17 kilometers from Hod District.
Accommodation and campsites are available, with tents for rent including bedding at prices ranging from 1,800-2,400 baht.
Location: Hod District, Chiang Mai Province For transportation, there are two options:
By car: From Chiang Mai city, take Highway 108, the Chiang Mai-Hod-Mae Sariang route. Upon reaching Hod district, turn right at the roundabout onto Highway 108 and continue for approximately 17 kilometers. The total distance is about 105 kilometers. The road is paved all the way, and the section between Hod and Ob Luang runs along the Mae Chaem River (or Salak Hin River), winding along the mountainside. Exercise caution while driving.
By bus: Several bus routes are available, such as Chiang Mai-Hod-Omkoi, Bangkok-Chom Thong, or Bangkok-Mae Sariang-Mae Hong Son. Then, take a shared taxi (songthaew) from the Hod district office for another 17 kilometers.
Alternatively, take the Chiang Mai-Mae Hong Son bus, which passes the Ob Luang National Park office. From the bus station, you can turn right at the Hod-Mae Sariang roundabout. There will be three bus routes: Hod-Mae Sariang, Hod-Mae Chaem, and Hod-Omkoi. All three routes pass through Ob Luang National Park.
