Aiyerweng Skywalk: Enjoy the view of the sea of mist in Betong, Yala.
Aiyerweng is the name of a subdistrict in Betong District, Yala Province. Its original name was Hala Subdistrict, dating back to 1904.
The pioneering ancestors migrated from Pattani State during the reign of King Rama V.
They lived in the heart of the vast Hala forest until 1950.
When the Malayan Communist Party invaded and disrupted the Hala community, to prevent hardship for the villagers and to prevent the spread of communism, the government relocated the Hala people to a new settlement.
This new settlement was located on the plains along the banks of the Pattani River, and the subdistrict's name was changed from Hala Subdistrict to Aiyerweng Subdistrict. Because the area is a bend in the Pattani River,
there was only one guesthouse
owned by a Chinese man for travelers between Yala and Betong. This Chinese man
was named "Weng," and "Aiyer" in the Yawi language means "river," hence the name of the subdistrict, "Aiyer Weng."
