Location details
Ao Hin Wong, Koh Tao | Surat Thani Province
The underwater rock formations at Ao Hin Wong are covered with pristine coral and sea anemones, and are teeming with diverse marine life. However, because almost the entire coastline of Ao Hin Wong is rocky, it's difficult to walk to the numerous and spread-out snorkeling spots. Therefore, it's a good idea to rent a kayak and explore the bay. Paddling across the bay to a small beach to the south, you'll find one of the best snorkeling spots on Koh Tao. The water here is incredibly clear. You might be lucky enough to see barracuda chasing large schools of ironfish in less than a meter of water, or hundreds of thousands of banana fish – a popular spot for photos. However, there's another interesting and lesser-known snorkeling spot further north. The coral here is well-preserved and boasts even richer marine life.
Ao Hin Wong is relatively remote and accessible by car and boat, or you can walk there in about an hour from Sairee Beach intersection.
