Chicken Island (or Axe Handle Island), Ao Nang, Mueang Krabi District | Krabi
Chicken Island, also known as Axe Handle Island, is an oddly shaped island located in Ao Nang Subdistrict, Mueang Krabi District, Krabi Province. Its various names come from the protruding cliff on its southern side. Visitors have different interpretations; some see it as a chicken's head, others as an axe handle, while foreigners even see it as Popeye.
This uniquely shaped island in Krabi Province features a natural rock formation resembling a chicken's head, a highlight of the 4-island tour (including Talay Waek, Koh Tub, and Koh Poda). It's a popular spot for snorkeling, enjoying the clear waters, and taking panoramic photos from the boat.
Chicken Island offers plenty of activities, similar to other islands. You can snorkel in both shallow and deep waters. However, the coral reefs may not be as abundant as on other islands, but it's still a worthwhile experience. Because here you'll also find white sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and tiger fish.
