Wat Ming Mueang in Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang Nan District, Nan Province, Thailand. Wat Ming Mueang is located in Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District, Chiang Rai Province. The Tai Yai people call it Wat Ngiao, and the locals call it Wat Chang Moo. It is an ancient temple that has been a part of Chiang Rai's history for a long time. It dates back to the very beginning of Chiang Rai's founding. According to inscriptions in Burmese script on gold plates, the temple was built by Princess Tala Mae Sri, the consort of King Mengrai the Great, who was the daughter of the King of Burma from Hanthawaddy. It is also an important temple that received significant support from the royal family in the past, eventually receiving a royal grant of land for its boundaries in 1970. Upon entering the temple, you will find the wooden vihara (chapel) with intricate carvings, built in a blend of Tai Yai and Lanna styles. The ceiling is adorned with a depiction of 34 swans in the Triphumi and Pali styles. Inside is enshrined Luang Pho Phra Sri Ming Mueang, the temple's principal Buddha image. This is a stucco Buddha image covered in gold leaf, in the Chiang Saen Singh 1 style, over 400 years old. The beauty of the architecture, along with the enshrinement of an ancient Buddha image, makes Wat Ming Muang one of the most important temples in Chiang Rai. It is ideal for making merit, paying respects to Buddha, and studying its historical value.
