Wat Tham Suea was originally called Samnak Song Na Ching, named after the village. In 1975, Luang Pho Chamnien had a vision to build a new monastery for practicing Dharma. He traveled to many places and found this location, which had a cave matching his vision. Luang Pho Chamnien then built the monastery and practiced Vipassana meditation at Wat Tham Suea.
