Wat Phra Kaew, a beautiful temple with a U Thong-style chedi, approximately 700 years old, is considered by archaeologists to be the most beautiful in Thailand. It also houses the Luang Pho Chai statue, built around the 18th-19th Buddhist centuries. It is constructed from five pieces of sandstone. Behind the Buddha image is a sandstone lintel, in the style of ancient Khmer art, depicting Shiva riding the elephant Erawan in an upside-down glass pavilion. It is believed to be over 1,000 years old.
