It is the oldest temple in Phitsanulok Province. It is believed to be the location of the original Phitsanulok city. According to the history of Chulamani Temple, it is said that King Borommatrailokanat Maharat built it and ordained at this temple for 8 months and 15 days. During his ordination, 2,348 royal servants ordained with him.
Inside the temple, there are still important Buddhist ancient sites and antiques, namely the “replica of the Buddha’s footprint” enshrined in an ancient Khmer prang made of laterite. The base of the prang is decorated with stucco in the shape of a swan, with clear patterns. The “stone inscription” embedded in the wall of the pavilion is currently covered with glass to preserve its condition. King Narai the Great built it.
In addition, inside Chulamani Temple, there is also the “old temple”, a hall-style building in the Ayutthaya period, similar to the ordination hall of Wat Ratchaburana. There are many other important Buddha images inside Wat Chulamani.
“Luang Pho Khao” is a stucco Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, Ayutthaya art style, enshrined in the old Ubosot. His Holiness Somdech Phra Maha Samana Chao Krom Phraya Vajirananavarorasa invited Luang Pho Khao from the Intharam soil in the military camp. “Luang Pho Kong” is a stucco Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, Sukhothai art style, which was originally enshrined in ruins, so the villagers joined together to build a new small chapel to enshrine Luang Pho Kong. “Luang Pho Dam” is a black stucco Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, Ayutthaya art style. According to history, the villagers invited Luang Pho Dam by boat from Wat Chung Nang. Luang Pho Dam was in a damaged condition. Kru Thiw Buranaket was the one who restored it. It is currently enshrined in the small chapel, just like Luang Pho Kong.
