Bays and Beaches: Phra Nang Cave Beach, Ao Nang, Krabi
This is the location of Phra Nang Cave, which houses a shrine to Phra Nang, revered by local fishermen. Inside the cave, the entrance is adorned with beautiful stalactites and is also a stunning spot to watch the sunset. Additionally, the area around Phra Nang Cave is popular for rock climbing, offering panoramic views of the beach.
Getting to Phra Nang Cave Beach
You can take a boat from Ao Nam Mao, Ao Nang, or Khlong Haeng Pier near Nopparat Thara Beach to Railay Beach. Longtail boats are available at Ao Nang, with ticket counters located at two points along the beach and one at Nopparat Thara Beach. After purchasing your ticket, you can wait for the boat on the beach. Boats depart continuously when full (8-12 passengers per boat) daily between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Outside of these hours, private charters are required. The fare for both Thai and foreign nationals is 100 baht per seat per trip. Round-trip tickets can be purchased separately. The journey takes approximately 20 minutes to Railay Bay. Long-tail boats from Ao Nang and Khlong Haeng Pier pick up and drop off passengers at Railay West Beach. For the return trip, you must also purchase tickets and wait for the boat at Railay West Beach. Phra Nang Cave Beach is one of the most beautiful and famous seaside tourist highlights in Krabi province. Located on the southern part of Railay Bay (Railay Peninsula), it features a unique blend of pristine nature and local culture. Things to see and do not miss: The beach and sea water: The beach has very fine and soft white sand, and the sea water is clear and emerald green, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Phra Nang Cave (Princess Cave): Located at the end of the beach under a limestone cliff, it houses the shrine of Phra Nang, which is revered by fishermen and locals who often come to pray for safe journeys and success. What catches the eye are the numerous colorful carved wooden phallic amulets offered by devotees as a symbol of fertility.
Limestone Cliffs and Koh Rang Island View: The beach offers stunning views of large limestone cliffs towering in the sea. During low tide (evening), a sandbar forms, allowing visitors to wade across to Koh Rang Island on the opposite bank.
Adventure Activities: The cliffs surrounding the beach are a world-class rock climbing spot, attracting tourists year-round. Kayaking and SUP boarding are also popular activities, allowing visitors to explore the surrounding cliffs and caves.
Longtail Boats Selling Food: Another highlight is the rows of longtail boats belonging to locals lined up along the beach, transformed into floating kitchens selling single-dish meals, papaya salad, grilled chicken, and cold drinks. Getting to Tham Phra Nang Beach
Due to the area being cut off by steep limestone mountains, Railay Bay is inaccessible by road. Travel is only possible by longtail boat.
From Ao Nang:
Purchase longtail boat tickets at the longtail boat association counter on Ao Nang beach.
The fare is approximately 100 baht per person per trip (200 baht round trip).
The boat will drop you off directly at Tham Phra Nang Beach, taking approximately 15 minutes.
From Ao Nam Mao Pier:
Take a longtail boat to Railay East Beach (fare approximately 100 baht).
Then, walk following the signs along a shady path under the cliffs, passing through resorts. The walk takes approximately 10-15 minutes to reach Tham Phra Nang Beach.
From Railay West Beach:
You can also walk through the village/shop walkway to Railay East and then continue on to Tham Phra Nang Beach.
