A famous temple in the middle of the sea on the border of Chachoengsao and Samut Prakan provinces. The temple juts out into the water. It is a popular tourist attraction for Chachoengsao people, Samut Prakan people, and nearby areas. Recently, the temple has opened the Skywalk at Wat Hong Thong to welcome tourists to see the Sea Walk, or the first walkway down to the sea in the country. It is also a tourist attraction for the public. Anyone looking for a place to visit near Bangkok or wanting to worship near Bangkok must visit Wat Hong Thong.
Originally, in 1967, this place was established as “Wat Luang Pu Pan” (abbot of Wat Kongkaram). Later, in 1979, permission was requested from the Department of Religious Affairs to establish “Wat Hong Thong”, which was completed in 1984 with Phra Ajahn Pho as the first abbot. In 1991, Wat Hong Thong, which was located by the sea and had been continuously eroding the bank, was eroded by the sea until only 8 rai of land was left (from the original area specified in the title deed of 21 rai 2 ngan). This caused some of the buildings that used to be by the sea to be encroached upon by the water until they became buildings in the sea.
