Sala Kaew Ku or Wat Khaek is a very unique and beautiful outdoor museum. It is a square with many religious sculptures, which is 3 kilometers from Nong Khai city.
It is an outdoor sculpture park, approximately 42 rai in size, located in Samakkhi community, only 3–6 kilometers from Nong Khai city, based on the concept of “all religions can coexist” of Grandfather Boonluea Sureerat, who built it in 1978.
Background and context
Grandfather Boonluea was an artist and meditation practitioner who created the first sculpture park in Vientiane (Buddha Park, 1958), but fled to Thailand after the revolution in Laos and continued building Sala Kaew Ku until his death.
The sculptures in the style of many religions, including Buddhism, Brahmanism, and Hinduism, are not only unique, but also have inscriptions explaining the Isan language and Thai language at the base of each statue, etc.
