Wat Pho Kao Ton or Wat Mai Daeng | Singburi Province
This temple played a crucial role during the Bang Rachan villagers' wars to defend their country. The temple grounds contain fascinating historical evidence, as it was originally used as a stronghold against the Burmese army that invaded Ayutthaya in 1765. They held off the Burmese army for five months and were registered as an ancient site in 1955. The name "Wat Mai Daeng" comes from the numerous red trees on the temple grounds. These trees are extremely long-lived, with some having died over 200 years ago.
The "Ban Rachan Retro Thai Market" is also located within the temple grounds. Local vendors sell local food, hard-to-find traditional snacks, handmade products, and fresh fruits and vegetables from the villagers' farms. Prices start at just ten baht. Open every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
Address: Highway 3032, Bang Rachan Subdistrict, Khai Bang Rachan District, Sing Buri 16150
